A robust platform for one of the largest telecommunications companies to consolidate global digital properties into a centralized instance
With more than 60,000 people spread across over 150 countries, Nokia Siemens Networks is one of the largest telecommunications hardware, software and services companies in the world. The company offers a complete portfolio of mobile, fixed and converged network technologies as well as professional services including consulting and systems integration, network implementation, maintenance and managed services.
Nokia Siemens Network has dozens of websites deployed in different countries that use multiple language sets and serve various audiences. For years, each individual site was managed by a local team using different platforms. This became extremely cumbersome when it came to updating branded copy and changing information across its global and national sites. Nokia was looking for an effective way of maintaining all site properties within a centralized platform.
The initial requirement of the project was to map out and execute on a large-scale database migration to bring all of Nokia’s site properties to a single instance. The next step was finding a platform with the ability to power every country’s website as well as the global website at large, additionally supporting the inputting of data from multiple languages such as English, Spanish, Italian and others.
Using Drupal as the core platform, Icreon conducted a deep data migration to pull information from multiple legacy SQL Server and MySQL systems to create a master copy of data. The platform has ample tools to allow content creators to pull from a vast repository of past information written by other writers for plug-n-play content and media insertion. Because NSN has such a large, distributed team, the platform is also designed with non-technical users in mind, with built-in tagging & search tools to re-use and re-mix content.
Today, Drupal’s database now powers the Nokia’s web content across dozens of countries simultaneously.
