Case Study: Activate Learning
Content Management System to manage multiple websites
Activate Learning is a progressive education group that combines secondary and higher education with apprenticeship and workforce training. The group members are united by a common purpose - to transform lives through learning. Activate works across industries to build career pathways for thousands of students every year.
Activate Learning had multiple websites for all of their ventures; each with separate processes and workflows for publishing content. Individually updating each of their websites was a tedious process. Lack of a centralised administration and content repository was resulted in content being duplicated, making it difficult to maintain.
The lack of a single point of access to editorial content limited the conglomerate's ability to push out integrated marketing efforts on a large scale, making it difficult to deliver information, updates, and data to users. To better connect with their users, Activate required a new framework for Content Management.
Icreon's Drupal team developed a multi-domain enterprise-grade CMS for students, employers and staff that supports online news, events, articles, course data, academic track information, and online application assets. The CMS manages the content of four college sites from a centralised backend system, each with a customised look and feel. Each backend can dynamically generate different views of the same existing content based on their domain destination. Using SOAP, the CMS also fetches and stores course information from Microsoft Dynamics ERP. Future iterations of development have been optimised so that Activate can directly write data from the CMS into the CRM component of the ERP.
